7 Q’s With Kinley

Breakfast or dinner? Describe your ideal meal.
Dinner. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good brunch moment, but my ideal meal would include one (or two) fried appetizers, some sort of sandwich including avocado and a side of fries dipped in ranch.
How did you come to be at Caliber?
This is a bit of a different story for me. I was born and raised in Wichita, KS and have always stayed close to home. A little over a year ago, my husband got a job promotion that required us to move to Sioux Falls. Not being familiar with the area at all, I started researching advertising agencies and came across Caliber. Our cool brand and amazing work stuck out to me and I just knew I had to work here!
Recommend a book, movie, music album, etc. – a favorite or something you’ve consumed recently
With many road trips home, my husband and I have gotten hooked on podcasts. Murder mystery podcasts to be specific. We recently started Murder in America, which focuses on the most infamous homicides, state-by-state. It’s super interesting to learn more about the murders in your home state or learn more about well-known homicides around the US.
What piece of advice would you give to your younger self or someone early in their career path?
It’s okay to have no idea what you want to do. Use your time in college to soak up all the learning and don’t stress about the future. I am 3 years out of college and only finally figuring out what I like most about my field. Many people never even figure out what they truly want to do in life, and that’s okay. It’s a big decision!
What skill, hobby, or experience do you have that would surprise people?
Many people know this hobby (or obsession) of mine, but the extent of it might surprise people. I have a passion for houseplants and have a collection totaling over 50. If the amount didn’t already give it away, I’m not your average plant lover. In fact, I know the nickname and scientific name of almost every houseplant and have a pretty good idea of the needs that they prefer. I may not know how to keep ALL of them alive, but I love learning about each plant and how to help them thrive.
What’s a cause that you are passionate about and why?
I am passionate about a number of causes and social issues in America, but one that has recently weighed heavy on my heart is equal rights and social justice. I try to do my part and take a stance in any way that I can.
Describe your perfect day.
My perfect day would be a warm, sunny Saturday kicked off with a trip to the farmers market, with an iced coffee in hand. I would then enjoy a walk with my dog, do some gardening, and just spend time outside. Did I mention that I’m ready for summer?
